Desert Wars - 40k Rogue Trader Tournament (May 2002)

Last Updated 01.01.04

The first Rouge Trader Tournament (RTT) ever run in Vegas was a smashing success with over eighteen players! Dreamland Hobbies was nice enough to sponsor the event with prizes and other goodies. Everyone showed up bright and early to get registration done and their armies checked. 1000 points was a small force for most of the players and it really made every mistake punishing.

Round One was, of course, Dawn Assault mission. First pairing were randomly determined and the games were played quickly. We began to see with the first games who was going to be a hard army to beat. But as with all RTTs the tournament isn't won by just your generalship. How well your army is painted, the composition for which your force was selected, and the overall sportsmanship added to your scores to determine the victor.

Four games were played and the final battles swung back and forth as the top generals finally faced off against each other. When the dust had settled and the scores were added up the Overall Champion was Davis VanderVelde. His battle scores were not the highest, but his force cleaned house and still scored highly in all the other catagories. For the most fun to play and obviously an easy going guy, Scott Anderson won Best Sportsmanship (although it was VERY close in this catagory). For her wonderfully designed and painted Eldar army, Grace Meyer won the Best Army award. Lastly, and most definately deserved, Nick Tompkins won the Best Appearance award for his Baramian Liberation People's Republic Imperial Guard Force.

Thanks to Nick Tompkins for putting together two of the trophies and for making all of them come out so wonderfully based! Also thanks goes out to Robert for making the Best Appearance trophy. Lastly, MAJOR thanks to Bill Harris for playing the Ringer army and helping out in general.

This was our best tournament to date and we're all looking forward to the next RTT in August!
