Iron Man XI- 40k Tournament (October 1st, 2005) - Results

IRON MAN XI MORTAL COMBAT October 1 , 2005

From the start we decided that since we could not play in this tournament we would make it the “Best” tournament possible from an organizational standpoint and from a players standpoint. We started sending out email blasts to clubs in AZ, CA, NV, UT and NM, we posted the Tournament on the GW RTT page, and we made up color flyers and distributed them to all the local stores.

Next the Prizes well what is better than a GW Lenton Museum REAL SIZE Space Marine helmet! Nick managed to acquire this item through an international trade and made it available as the prize. We figured this would draw lots of players and entice people to step up the quality of their armies to competitive level.

What else would make players come? Well Games Workshop cancelled the Los Angeles Grand Tournament otherwise you can bet Robert and Nick would be playing in that instead of running an RTT we figured this would be another good reason to come to Las Vegas. Special thanks also go to our Webmaster Tim Martin for designing the awesome Iron Man Logo.

So with all planning done we came to the missions and details of the RTT the things that would make it enjoyable to play in. We decided to have a clearly spelled out COMPOSITION and PAINTING Score guidelines so everyone would know how they would score going into the Tournament what a great concept. We think we were able to come up with a Comp scoring system that encouraged players to avoid Min/Max and overly specialized armies. The 4 round format allowed us to choose GW missions and mission parameters that would challenge every type of army on the table. We even made a special Objective piece for one scenario. Finally to top off what we could do to make the Tournament unique Nick managed to get a GW unreleased Bunker pictured in many White Dwarfs and Codexes. We used a GW defend scenario to create a special final scenario using the bunker.

In addition to all the work on scenarios and special terrain we built more tables, more blocking terrain and hills. We hope everyone enjoyed the tournament because we left no stone unturned in our efforts to make it good.

Something new we tried were club supplied dice all players used the same dice provided by the club at each table.

So look at the pictures and the scenarios and come join us next time the Las Vegas Gamers club puts on an event!
