NeonCon 40K Rogue Trader Tournament - October 13, 2007

(Originally posted on The Lords of Excess forum)

Well, it's been almost a month since the NeonCon convention, but I finally had some time to respond to the post.

First, NeonCon was a smashing success. From all that I could tell, and all the reports that made it back to me, everyone who attended had a great time. Many friends we're made, many games we're played and of course evil was defeated. Well, mostly. Everyone I spoke to told me that they had every intention of returning next year. That is exactly the kind of response we were looking for from NeonCon and one that cements the fact that it was a success.

Success however typically comes at a price. The price of lugging table toppers and mini terrain miles across the Las Vegas desert; hauling hundreds of pounds of lead back and forth daily for a weekend at the Circus Circus; and dedicating hours of valuable personal time before, during and after the convention. Most people don't understand the commitment and dedication needed to pull of the events you did at NeonCon and for that I tip my gaming hat to all of you.

Special thanks to Vern, Larry, Rick, Scott, BJ and Bill for dedicating so much of their time to come down and run games. Without all of your help, NeonCon would not have been the success that it was. In fact it would have been a much lesser event. Your presence gave the convention an additional boost that it wouldn't have had otherwise.

Also, thanks to all those who attended to support the convention as a player or just an observer. There were a few people who couldn't make the convention, but just stopped down to pay for a day pass just to see what's going on and make a "donation" to the cause. Those are the peeps who get it and understand what kind of effort everyone went through to make the event happen. Thank you.

Doug and I have every intention of bringing NeonCon back for another year. This first year was tough. Once the initial stumbling blocks were cleared we only had about 4 months to put the convention together. We really didn't have the time to commit to a decent marketing strategy for the first go around of NeonCon because we were so pre-occupied with the "first year" tasks. Now that those tasks are out of the way we can really look at moving forward and getting the word about NeonCon out to the region (and even the nation). With NeonCon 2007 over and ConQuest Vegas 2008 coming to town, the "convention scene" will quickly be realized by local gamers in Las Vegas and the attendee counts will grow. I hope that all of you will consider lending your assistance next year, because if all goes according to plan, we're gonna need it.

My Most Humble and Sincere Thanks,

Mike Sanchez
